I spent most of yesterday doing something super-awesome and super-stealth! Hmmm… I wonder what that could be…

TOTES! TOTES! TOTES!

Posted by Leslie Simon on Jun 22, 2009 in book stuff, style stuff

If you totes heart totes (bags, that is), then you already have a whole collection of shoulder candy by the bril Sperber sisters at 31 Corn Lane. I’ve been crushing on them for the past gazillion years and I’m lucky enough to call one of Sperbs—the lovely and talented and insanely svelt Miss Teeter—my bestie.

In step with our mutual admiration society, Teet has turned the Talented Lady Spotlight on lil’ ol’ ME this time around! I’m so excited, I’m kvelling!! Hoof it over to check out my musings on Paula Abdul, cats with bladder probs and, of course, gangsta rap. Woot woot!

(Lil’ known fact: I was actually a tote model in my former life. Don’t believe me? See for yourself! Yes, ma’am… that is my Naturalistics Passion Fruit lip gloss. They totally don’t make it anymore and I mourn for it every day. True story.)

BEING DUPED VS. GETTING DUMPED

Posted by Leslie Simon on Jun 19, 2009 in life stuff

It’s a moral dilemma rad women deal with on a daily basis. After dealing with a minion who both duped and dumped yours truly, I’d love to hear what you guys think about this particular crossroads and what your experience has been being the duper/dupee and/or the dumper/dumpee. Please comment, email and Twitter me your thoughts. I’d love to repost them here with some sublimely awesome insight on my part. Be afraid, dumpers and dupees. Be very afraid.

CHIT CHAT AND (EMO) GIRL TALK

Posted by Leslie Simon on Jun 17, 2009 in book stuff, music stuff

I can’t tell you how flattered I was when the lovely Martina Butler from the Emo Girl Talk podcast asked me to be on her show. I must’ve been blushing for a week straight! We gabbed all about how babe-a-licious Jesse Lacey is and the best way to break into the book biz. The interview is live and streaming so take a trip over there and hear me pretend to know what I’m talking about.

Martina Butler is the raddest!! Listen to me babble on Emo Girl Talk!!

In other news of self-promotion, one of my besties was in NYC last weekend and she sent me the most amazing pictures from Urban Outfitters. I mean, I knew they were selling Wish You Were Here online but I had NO idea it was hitting store shelves. Take that, Chuck Klosterman!

Hey Waldo, betcha can't find Wish You Were Here!

Thankfully, my friend Jessica was able to spot the spine. Here she is, maxing and relaxing while showing off that Stanford education. Isn’t she a beaut? Sorry, fellas… She’s taken!!

NEWSFLASH: Dr. Jessica Weeks loves my book. Duh.

All in all, it’s been a pretty hectic week. I just got back from Cleveland last night, where I drowned myself in bridal awesomeness (for my bestie Lesley) and parental hangs. The trip was way too short, but it was super-nice to get a break from the Los Angeles June gloom. As soon as I landed, I hoofed it back to my apartment just in time to book it to see A Camp at the Troubador. It was amaaaaaaaaazing!! I have, like, the biggest girl crush on Nina Persson and just being in her presence made me feel like a “Lovefool.” (Yeah, I totally went there.)

The band just put out their second album, Colonia, not too long ago and it’s super-fantastic awesome. Here’s one of my fave songs, “Stronger Than Jesus.” Take a listen and let me know what you think! (Warning: Nina Persson is so pretty, it might be hard to look at her for more 30 seconds at a time. If this is the case, feel free to close your eyes and zone out.)

URBAN OUTFITTERS AWESOMENESS

Posted by Leslie Simon on Jun 11, 2009 in book stuff, music stuff

Great news, kiddies! Actually, it’s effing EXCITING news that deserve a bunch of exclamation points!!! The radtastic peeps at Urban Outfitters have started selling Wish You Were Here online. True story!! If any of your friends, family, enemies, frenemies or what-have-you have not ordered the book yet, you must tell them to hoof it over to Urban and add that sh*t to their shopping cart STAT! Do not pass “go!” Do not collect $100!

Be the first to review this piece of litarary brilliance!!

I know I’m such a blog tease, but I SWEAR there’s a mondo post in the works. Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye!!

In the meantime, do yourself and listen to the song that’s totes ruling my world right now. It’s by my fave British band The Wombats and it’s called “School Uniforms.” It totally speaks to my secret desire to have been a bad-ass prep-school girl a la Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler in Aerosmith’s “Crazy.” If the last minute of this track doesn’t make you dance around your room like a banchee, then call the doctor because there is officially something wrong with you! (”Short skirts, long hair, hormones flying everywherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre!!”
