Geek Girl Of The Week: Danese Cooper

Who: Danese Cooper

Type of Geek: Open-Source Diva Tech Geek

Dubbed the “Wiki Witch of the West,’ Cooper is probably best known for her programming work at Apple, Intel, Sun Microsystems and, most recently, Wikimedia. She’s a staunch open-source advocate and a sought-after speaker who believes the only way to have more female coders is to teach girls to code at an early age. In other words, stop whinging* and start doing!

* British slang for “to complain obsessively and repetitively.” Oddly enough, “Little Whinging” is also the name of a fictitious, humdrum town in Surrey, England, where Harry Potter lives with his extended family, the Dursleys, before being shipped off to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
