You might not guess it from her signature stark, all-black wardrobe, but Kelly Cutrone is a style maven like no other. She’s the founder of People’s Revolution—a fashion and lifestyle branding, PR and marketing firm—and she’s responsible putting together the hottest runway shows all over the world, in addition to turning designers from inaccessible artists to household names (and labels).

Not shy to speak her opinion (or rip Whitney Port a new one, like she did so often on The City), Cutrone is one of the most respected (and celebrated) women in fashion because she’s not afraid to be real and/or honest, two things that aren’t often found in an industry of fantasy and make-believe.

Who: Chlöe Sevigny

Type of Geek: Retro Geek

A big part of being a retro geek girl is acting cool. Just like the tagline for that old-school brand of deodorant Dry Idea, you never wanna let them see you sweat. That said, if cool were a commodity, Chlöe Sevigny would be Warren Buffet—or at least Jimmy Buffet. (Goodness knows those Parrotheads have afforded him to live pretty damn comfortably.)

Chlöe’s carefree attitude applies to both her acting choices and her personal style. Whether she’s giving fellatio to Vincent Gallo in The Brown Bunny or wearing an oversized teal doily to the annual Met Costume Institute Gala, she doesn’t care what other people think, and that’s what being a retro geek girl is all about.

Well, that and having a good sense of humor when people like Drew Droege poke fun at your likeness.

Who: Tavi Gevinson

Type of Geek: Bow-Wearing Fashionista Geek Girl

Known for her frenetic fashion sense*—which blends together high-end couture with whimsical thrift-store finds—and keen eye for up-and-coming trends and designers, Tavi has become the voice of a new generation of fashion lovers through her blog, The Style Rookie. Oh, and I did I forget to mention that she’s barely out of middle school?

Wise beyond her years, Tavi has earned both critical praise for her honest and eloquent reporting (Fast Company listed her in its “100 Most Creative People in 2010″) and some pretty high-profile friends (Marc Jacobs is probably on her phone’s friends and family plan). She has currently joined forces with media mistress Jane Pratt to launch a new Sassy-esque magazine aimed at like-minded independent (and ultra-chic) ladies.

* You can often find Tavi sitting front row at New York Fashion Week, wearing an oversized bow atop her head. Isabella Blow, the late muse of hat designer Philip Treacy, would be proud.

In step with our mutual admiration society, Teet has turned the Talented Lady Spotlight on lil’ ol’ ME this time around! I’m so excited, I’m kvelling!! Hoof it over to check out my musings on Paula Abdul, cats with bladder probs and, of course, gangsta rap. Woot woot!

(Lil’ known fact: I was actually a tote model in my former life. Don’t believe me? See for yourself! Yes, ma’am… that is my Naturalistics Passion Fruit lip gloss. They totally don’t make it anymore and I mourn for it every day. True story.)

In other news of self-promotion, one of my besties was in NYC last weekend and she sent me the most amazing pictures from Urban Outfitters. I mean, I knew they were selling Wish You Were Here online but I had NO idea it was hitting store shelves. Take that, Chuck Klosterman!

A Camp at the Troubador. It was amaaaaaaaaazing!! I have, like, the biggest girl crush on Nina Persson and just being in her presence made me feel like a “Lovefool.” (Yeah, I totally went there.)

The band just put out their second album, Colonia, not too long ago and it’s super-fantastic awesome. Here’s one of my fave songs, “Stronger Than Jesus.” Take a listen and let me know what you think! (Warning: Nina Persson is so pretty, it might be hard to look at her for more 30 seconds at a time. If this is the case, feel free to close your eyes and zone out.)
